Title
Title IX Imperiled
Description
Notes from teach-in session "Title IX Imperiled" taught by Jennifer McCary and Kristina Chamberlin '17 during the Student Solidarity Rally
Published in 1914, this song was composed by Jean Schwartz with lyrics by Grant Clarke. Schwartz was a Hungarian-born composer who began his career with Shapiro-Bernstein and wrote music for many Broadway shows, including The Wizard of Oz and the Ziegfeld Follies. Clarke was an American songwriter who began as an actor and writer for comedians before moving to Tin Pan Alley to write lyrics. He contributed to the soundtracks of several movies, and was a charter member of ASCAP. This song is about a vain young man who prefers to spend time with women than work or study at school.
