Media Statement for Muslim Solidarity Rally
Gettysburg Battlefield Song
Tin Pan Alley
The organizers of the Muslim Solidarity Rally co-wrote this document in order to help media/reporters understand our reasoning behind the rally.
This song was written by Leah Carp Kirssin for the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Kirssin and her husband, Lewis, were English immigrants who settled in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania where Lewis owned a clothing store. The song reflects on the memory of the battle and celebrates the soldiers on both sides. The Library of Congress has a home recording of the song as sung by Harold Bernard Kirssin, the son of the composer who was born in Gettysburg, accompanied by an electric piano.
