This is a map which examines Amish migration to and within the United States.  The Amish are an ehtno-religious group which originated in Switzerland, but due to various push factors immigrated to North America where they flourish today.  This project examines what locations in North America are able to appeal and properly support Amish communities.  The Amish require very specific conditions to support their communities due to their very strict agricultural practices.  Furthermore, the Amish tend to exist in regions which are more demographically similar to their European origin than other regions.  Regions such as the American South have climates which are simply not conducive to Amish style agriculture and therefore are largely unable to sustain Amish populations.  Overall the Amish exist in North America mostly where the existing demographics more closely resemble that of their European origins, and in regions where the climate and geography support Amish style agriculture.
